Dr. Taghinia is actively engaged in multiple research endeavors involving both children and adults. His primary interests are improving care of patients with hand trauma, and refining techniques for treatment of congenital hand differences.
Dr. Taghinia also has an interest in vascular anomalies of the extremities. He and other collaborators are assessing the effectiveness of thoracic duct bypass procedures for difficult central lymphatic anomalies.
Currently, Dr. Taghinia is spearheading the world’s first pediatricHand Transplant Program. This research study is being conducted by a multidisciplinaryteamof surgeons and clinicians. The study will evaluate the safety and efficacy of pediatric hand transplantation. The research program is currently enrolling patients, and it has been featured in nationalnewsstories.

Dr. Taghinia graduated with a BS in chemistry from Stanford University. He earned his MD from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology at Harvard Medical School, where he graduated cum laude. He completed his postgraduate training at Massachusetts General Hospital, the Harvard Plastic Surgery Training Program, Boston Children's Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. In addition to residencies in general and plastic surgery, Dr. Taghinia has also completed a fellowship in hand and microsurgery. Dr. Taghinia recently earned an MPH from Harvard School of Public Health’s Program in Clinical Effectiveness.
