Description of the Program |Overview

Training in this program is comprehensive and will include supervision in the management of ambulatory and in-patient care to children and young adults with a broad range of congenital and acquired hepatobiliary disorders. There will be opportunities to assist in the education and supervision of GI fellows. In addition, all fellows spend approximately 40% of their time participating in a mentored clinical research project. Funding is available to support attendance at regional and national meetings. Fellows will have opportunities for peer education through participation in a curriculum of lectures and conferences offered both at Children’s Hospital as well as the adjacent campuses of Harvard Medical School and its affiliate hospitals. A one-month rotation at a local adult Hepatology/Liver Transplant program is included.

One fellow per year will be accepted for participation in this program, and salary support will be provided at the level of a 4th year fellow (PGY7). At the completion of this fellowship, the trainee will be eligible to sit for the American Board of Pediatrics Transplant Hepatology Board examination.

Boston Children’s Hospital is the major pediatric teaching facility for Harvard Medical School. The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition includes more than 60 faculty members and a full panel of GI subspecialty programs. There are four certified full-time faculty members in the Hepatology and Transplant Program, which is the busiest pediatric liver transplant service in New England.
