Boston Children’s Hospital Advanced Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Under the director of Scott Snapper, MD, PhD and Athos Bousvaros, MD, MPH they will train successful basic and clinical investigators to become academic leaders in the treatment and study of children and adolescents with IBD. The fellow will dedicate 80% of time to a research project. The fellow will meet with the research mentor(s) frequently but at least once a week to discuss progress, resources and support needed. A Scholarship Oversight Committee will be charged with assessing at least twice annually the research progress of the fellow, but can be scheduled more frequently if necessary at the discretion of the chair.
The fellow will spend at least one-half day per month attending IBD clinic with an emphasis on experience with difficult diagnostic and management challenges and second opinions under the guidance of a senior faculty member. The fellow will spend time on the adult IBD service at the BWH interacting with senior IBD attendings responsible for the inpatient care of adults with IBD. The fellow will also attend the didactic program of the IBD Centers at the Boston Children’s Hospital and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The fellow will also be expected to teach medical students, residents, and other fellows. The fellow will be evaluated bi-annually by the co-Program Directors of the IBD Fellowship (summative and bi-annual evals). Additionally, the fellow be evaluated by each attending who supervises them in the IBD clinical setting. This will yield 5 evaluations per quarter, resulting in 20 evaluations each year.
Boston Children’s Hospital is the major pediatric teaching facility for Harvard Medical School. The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition includes more than 50 faculty members and a full panel of GI subspecialty programs.
