Speech-Language Pathology Program |Overview
As part of the Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Enhancement, the Speech-Language Pathology Program at Boston Children’s Hospital provides services for children of all ages who experience difficulties with speech sound production, resonance, voice, fluency, language, and feeding and swallowing. Diagnostic and therapy services are provided at several Boston Children’s Hospital locations.
Our speech-language pathologists are autonomous providers who have expertise in various communication disorders and swallowing disorders. Staff speech-language pathologists work collaboratively with other professionals on interdisciplinary teams at Boston Children’s Hospital. Referrals typically come from a pediatrician or other physician, parent, teacher, or a child’s treating speech-language pathologist.

Speech and Language
Evaluation services are available for concerns with speech sound production, receptive and expressive language, and pragmatic skills. Speech and language evaluations are conducted at the Lexington, Peabody, and Waltham sites. Speech and language therapy is available at our Lexington and Peabody sites.

Voice and Resonance
When there are concerns regarding hoarseness, pitch, loudness, resonance, or respiration, children are often seen in theVoice and Velopharyngeal Dysfunction Clinic, where a team evaluation is completed with an Otolaryngologist and Speech-Language Pathologist.

Voice evaluations may be scheduled individually with the Speech-Language Pathologist when the child has already been evaluated by a medical specialist, e.g., otolaryngologist or pulmonologist, and the specialist makes a referral for a voice evaluation/therapy.
