Boston Children’s Department of Nursing is deeply committed to nurses’ education and professional development. The hospital is invested in its professional advancement programs, fellowships, simulation learning, workshops and skill-building labs. Ongoing educational and advancement opportunities help nurses reach their goals, both inside and outside the workplace.

Programs & Opportunities include:
  • Professional Advancement Program:The program provides all professional nurses opportunities for career development and recognition of clinical expertise in their chosen area of practice. The Department of Nursing is committed to a healthy work environment. In an effort to provide clinical and professional growth and development opportunities for the nurse professionals, three levels of clinical practice are currently recognized, including Staff Nurse I, Staff Nurse II and Staff Nurse III.

  • Pediatric Simulator Program:The Pediatric Simulation Programat Boston Children’s offers a dual-purpose simulation laboratory and procedure room with an adjacent control room and conference room located within a state-of-the-art Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit. The Simulator Program operates as a post-graduate university for trainees from multiple disciplines and offers simulation-enhanced solutions to educational challenges.

  • The Career Lattice Program: The Career Lattice program helps create a strong multicultural workforce that can provide the best family-centered care to our patients and to the community. Participating Boston Children’s staff benefit from one-on-one mentoring, counseling and financial support so they can successfully complete nursing school.Watch a video about the Career Lattice Program.Each participant receives:
    • An individualized plan to support and guide each employee through the college experience
    • Access to Boston Children's nursing staff and faculty who serve as role models and mentors
