Student Career Opportunity Outreach Program |Overview
SCOOP is a summer internship open to high school students interested in pediatric nursing. Interns will be placed in clinical areas where they will have the opportunity to assist
with the daily tasks of the department, observe nurses and multidisciplinary teams, interact with patients and learn from various educational opportunities. Interns work 24 hours per week for 6 weeks during the summer. All interns are scheduled to work from Monday through Thursday.
By the end of the summer, the student will be able to:
- Describe the role of the nurse and how the nurse provides family-centered care to pediatric patients and their families.
- Participate as a team member in a selected patient services area.
- Share with others what they have learned through their experience or how they fulfilled a need in their unit.
Who can apply for a SCOOP internship?
To qualify for SCOOP students must meet the following criteria:
- Must be 17 years of age by June 1, 2019.
- Must have previous volunteer or work experience.
- Submit a 500 word essay about why they are interested in becoming a pediatric nurse.
- Submit two email addresses of recommenders who know the student well and can speak to why the student is an ideal candidate for the program.
When can I apply?
You will be able to submit your application starting onDecember 31, 2018clicking on this link.If you click on the link sooner than December 31you will not see the application. The application period will be open until midnight Eastern Time (ET) Friday March 1, 2019.
When does it take place?
The 2019 SCOOP internship is 6 weeks long. It begins onMonday, July 8, 2019and will end onThursday, August 15, 2019.
