Fingers, shoulders, and everything in between: Three upper extremity surgeons and their relentless quest for solutions

Donald S. Bae |Publications

I am an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery in children and young adults. After completing fellowship training in both pediatric orthopedics as well as hand and upper limb surgery, I provide care for a variety of congenital, traumatic, neuromuscular and sports-related conditions in patients ranging from newborn to collegiate age.

My interest in orthopedics stems from my prior experience as an athlete, having successfully recovered from surgery on both shoulders to swim at the Division 1 level and captain the Harvard Men’s Varsity Team. I was fortunate to train in orthopedics, pediatrics and hand surgery at outstanding centers of excellence and ultimately joined the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Caring for infants with congenital hand differences, children with neuromuscular disorders, adolescents with fractures or collegiate athletes with sports injuries is both a tremendous privilege and profound responsibility. My professional philosophy is to provide the highest quality, most compassionate care to improve the lives of my patients, based upon the best scientific evidence available. Furthermore, I am firmly committed to both education and research, training the next generation of orthopedic surgeons and improving the standards of care for future patients.
