Overview

The Summer Student Research Program isno longer accepting applications for summer 2022. Please consider applying next year.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be an entering sophomore, junior, or senior of college OR a medical student. Students must be currently enrolled at a university or medical school.
  • Applicant must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher supported by an unofficial transcript.
  • Students who have already participated in the program are not eligible.
  • Citizens and permanent residents of the United States may be eligible for National Institutes of Health funding.

How to apply

  • Complete anapplication form
  • Return the completed application form and a copy of your curriculum vitae (CV) to theprogram coordinator. (Please be sure to save the form to your computer before sending a copy. When your form is completed, attach the file to an email and send it to the address indicated on the form.)
    • Letters of reference may be sent from the referee directly to the program coordinator.
  • Additional application requirements:
    • one strong, professional letter of recommendation supporting the student’s academic abilities
    • a personal statement answering the following two questions (limit 500 words each)
      • Please describe a time when you have overcome a barrier in your life.
      • Share an inspiring moment from the past year.
    • an unofficial transcript stating a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
    • previous research experience and funding is a plus, but is not required.

Funding

  • The program compensates students at an hourly rate determined by their level of education. Students are expected to work for eight weeks, 30-40 hours per week.
  • Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation and housing.

International applicants

  • The Summer Student Research Program does not offer visa sponsorship. International applicants can still apply if they have a visa that would allow them to participate in a paid internship in the U.S. An applicant who is in the U.S. on an F-1 student visa would be eligible to apply.

Selection process

  • Students are selected by the directors based on an assessment of each student's application, research interests, and mentor availability.
